MONTGOMERY, AL – Joseph Marchant, President and CEO of Bibb Medical Center, was recently named chair of the Alabama Hospital Association (AlaHA). The election was made last week at the Association’s annual meeting. 

“Joseph has been a strong leader of the Association for a number of years,” said Donald E. Williamson, MD, president of the Alabama Hospital Association. “He is a strong advocate for rural hospitals, and we are looking forward to the positive impact his leadership will have on the entire Association and its members.

Marchant has served AlaHA in various positions, including chairing the Association’s legislative committee, serving as president of the West Alabama Regional Hospital Council and as chair of the Rural Hospital Constituency Section. He has also chaired and/or participated on a number of other committees, such as the Association’s finance committee, physician workforce task force, and future directions committee. 

Marchant has extensive experience in various types of health care facilities, including rural health clinics, community hospitals and long-term care retirement communities. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and is a licensed long-term care administrator by the State of Alabama Board of Examiners of Nursing Home Administrators. In addition, Marchant currently serves on the boards of the Industrial Development Authority, Chamber of Commerce, Healthcare Workers Compensation Fund, Bibb County School Foundation, and Alabama Select.

Founded in 1921, the Alabama Hospital Association is a statewide trade organization that assists member hospitals in effectively serving the health care needs of Alabama, through advocacy, representation, education and service.
