HOSPAC
HOSPAC is AlaHA’s political action committee and a critical component of the Association’s advocacy efforts.
For additional information, contact Danne Howard in the Government Relations Office, (334) 834-3477.
It’s the Alabama Hospital Association Political Action Committee, a nonpartisan, statewide organization administered by a board of directors comprised of members of the Alabama Hospital Association. It allows hospitals to raise funds to assist candidates whose philosophies, actions and voting records reflect an understanding and concern for hospital and health care issues and how these issues impact the communities they represent.
HOSPAC is a state PAC, so it is prohibited from contributing to federal candidates. Therefore, HOSPAC partners with the American Hospital Association Federal PAC (AHAPAC) through an annual joint fundraiser. HOSPAC transfers a percentage of qualifying funds raised during this effort to AHAPAC to support Alabama candidates at the federal level.
- Quality health care for all Alabamians
- Fair and reasonable reimbursement for the care provided
- Relief from unecessary regulatory burdens
- Informed and responsible government officials
- A unified political voice for Alabama’s hospitals
Anyone can contribute, but there is a difference in how the funds can be used based on the individual’s status. Individuals who are salaried employees, who have managerial, supervisory or policy making duties or who are trustees of the institution are eligible to contribute to the joint AHAPAC/HOSPAC campaign. Contributions from all other individuals are used only at the state level.
YES, as individuals. State, governmental and not-for-profit hospitals may not participate in political activity as an institution; HOWEVER, employees of these facilities can personally contribute. Personal contributions must be voluntary and cannot be mandatory or as a condition of employment.
Investor-owned organizations and for-profit subsidiaries of not-for-profit organizations may directly contribute to HOSPAC.
Any contribution to HOSPAC will make a significant difference in our efforts to ensure the hospital voice is heard. Although no donation is too small, the following are suggested categories of giving that provide special recognition:
1898 Society – $5,000
Champions Club – $2,500
Ben Franklin Club – $1,000
Chairman’s Circle – $500
Capitol Club – $350
Contributions to HOSPAC and/or AHAPAC are not tax deductible.
