Background:  A small group of representatives from the Alabama Nursing Home Association and the Alabama Hospital Association have been meeting to discuss issues related to patients with mental illness.  Both parties have learned a lot about the challenges all organizations face in providing the best possible care to these patients. In an effort to grow these discussions and share best practices, we are hosting five regional meetings during the latter part of September and are contacting you to invite you and your staff to attend.

Each meeting will last two hours and will include a panel of nursing homes and hospitals sharing some of the things we’ve learned about the various challenges (e.g., regulatory, environmental, staffing, etc.).  We will also share some best practices that could help solve some of the challenges.  And, we will be introducing a new discharge tool developed by the workgroup that provides enhanced information for nursing homes receiving these patients.

It should be a fruitful meeting, and we hope you all can participate.  We will offer 2 hours of nursing home CEUs, 2 hours of social worker CEUs and 1.67 hours of nursing CEUs.  Please choose from one of the following dates and the link to register. (Same material covered at each meeting/location.)

If you have any questions, contact Katrina Magdon with the Alabama Nursing Home Association or Rosemary Blackmon with the Alabama Hospital Association.
