White House Budget Request Includes Cuts to Medicare, Medicaid

 Friday, February 14, 2020

President Trump this week submitted his budget request for FY 2021 to Congress which included billions of dollars in reductions to Medicare and Medicaid over the next decade. The proposal called for cuts of $844 billion from Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act over the next decade and $750 billion in reductions to the Medicare program over the same time period, mostly from hospital and physician reimbursement.

It should be noted that the President’s budget request is a formality and is rarely an indication of what would be included in a final Congressional-approved budget.

Again, administration budgets are sent to Congress, but are rarely enacted as presented.
