SUD Treatment Admissions Increased After Medicaid Expansion

According to a new study published in Health Affairs, Affordable Care Act (ACA) expansion states saw an increase in specialty treatment admission rates for patients with substance use disorder (SUD). Researchers studied treatment admission rates in expansion and non-expansion states in the four years following implementation of the ACA. Expansion states saw a 36-percent increase in patients admitted for treatment by the fourth year after expansion compared to non-expansion states.
