Healthcare Ransomware Attacks Increase 350 Percent

 Friday, March 13, 2020

Hospitals and other healthcare entities saw a 350 percent increase in ransomware attacks in the fourth quarter of 2019 compared to the fourth quarter of 2018, according to a new report from Corvus Insurance. The report found that most healthcare facilities lack email scanning and filtering tools that would prevent ransomware attacks from happening as easily. In addition, the report noted that clinicians are 14 percent less likely to use basic forms of email authentication. Researchers suggested that if healthcare entities adopted enhanced email security, the risk of being targeted in a ransomware attack could be reduced by 33 percent.
