Now in its 15^th year, Scale Back Alabama, a statewide weight-loss program begun by the Alabama Hospital Association, the Alabama Department of Public Health and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama, is making some major changes to promote a virtual environment and to decrease the emphasis on weight loss.

The 2021 program will focus on healthy lifestyles and will reward the formation of healthy habits with weekly prize challenges. The good news for hospitals that have long supported the program is that there will be no weigh-ins and no data entry. The role of hospital coordinators will simply be to promote the program and encourage employees to participate.

Best of all, while coordinators need to register this month, the work doesn’t really begin until after the first of the year.
